I'd exploit the heck out of that in FM, and during beachcombing. 1 dunking, no need to backtrack and dry off, warm up, and take a longer route around? Yeah. Rerspawning you on the opposite side (where you were trying to run to), would be hugely exploitable, and take away almost all penalty of running out onto thin ice, headed toiward a far shoreline. Learn to use that key to back up fast, and not fall in again. It will always respawn you on the last spot you were standing on before you fell. The gsme is not designed to reward you for doing foolish things, like repeatedly trying to run across the same weak ice you just fell through. I'll leave this link to an in-depth description of my recent death relating to FM. Other than that I tend to go ML to Spence's via Poacher's then out on the ice to High Blind and on to Spence's. I think I plotted one lengthy safe path from the tracks to Spence's because it was worth doing.

Basically for me any patch of ice big enough to be called a patch is suspicious. Got to look for where the snow on the ice kinda points the way.
